Alimentaria Barcelona 2006 got the best figures in its history, both in terms of the number of occupied square metres (122,000) and of professional visitors (152,000 with 33,000 from 155 countrieses) and participating companies (close to 5,000 with 1,500 firms from 70 countries).
The EU contributed the greatest number of international companies to Alimentaria 2006. Italy, with 200 companies, Germany, with 65, Belgium, with 90, France, with 110, the Netherlands, with 20, Portugal, with 60, and the United Kingdom, with over 40, are the countries with the highest representation. Regarding other continents, China contributed 35 companies, Egypt close to 20, the U.S. 25, and Turkey 40.

These data consolidate the Spanish exhibition in the second position in the world ranking.

RIWSF 2006 postponed to October 2007. At RIWSF 2005, there was 103 exhibitors from 34 countries including France, Italy, Hungary, South Africa, Georgia, Greece, Germany, Macedonia, Moldova, Portugal, Romania, the UK, Ukraine and, of course, Russia.
Since the beginning of 2006, the wine and spirits market in Russia has seen many changes due to measures taken by the Russian government to prevent the illegal trade of alcohol. The government estimated that 50% of all trade in alcohol iwas illegal and they took major steps to combat this situation. A new banderol system was introduced at the start of the year in an attempt to regain control of the market which meant that all alcohol with the old banderols had to be removed from supermarket shelves. Many of the smaller importers have gone out of business, many others have been closed down and the larger importers are likely to be similarly affected. The industry is heavily dependent on imports of wine and so the RIWSF was launched to provide a trade focused platform for international producers to develop new and existing business contacts within the industry.

In 2006, Matthew Benyon, Managing Director of Montgomery International said, it would be wrong to encourage companies to enter the Russian market at a time of such uncertainty;  "It is possible that the State will take back control of the alcohol industry 100% in the same way it still controls other sectors which is obviously very worrying for the current importers"

Natural Products Europe and Organic Products Europe 2006 was the busiest and best to date. Once again, two major exhibitions shared the Grand Hall of Olympia. The show was a fantastic success with 567 exhibitors, manufacturers, producers and distributors, including 235 overseas companies attending from over 50 countries. The event was visited by over 7,500 industry professionals.
