Structure of the Commission

At the international level :

The organs of the Commission are the following:
(a) General Assembly
(b) Executive Committee
(c) Scientific Board
(d) Secretarial General
 
The General Assembly of the Commission comprises representatives of the member Governments. Each member has one vote. Associate members are admitted to the General Assembly, but they have no vote.

The General Assembly of October 18th, 2010 elected Spain as President with as vice-presidents Egypt, France and Madagascar. The delegates of these States set up the Executive committee. Patrick Dysseler was renewed as General reporter of the Scientific committee with Mrs François-Henri Bolnot and Mustapha Ismaïli Alaoui as assistant rapporteurs.

The Executive Committee and Scientific Board are elected for 4 years at the annual General Assembly.

At the national level, the government designs its delegate who may be assisted by an alternate, together with assistants and advisers as required to pass propositions onto the Commission. For that matter, the delegate takes the initiative to set up the most appropriated structures of dialogue.

The Secretary General :
- directs the Secretariat of the Commission,
- ensures the execution of the programme approved by the General Assembly and of the tasks assigned to him by the Executive Committee,
- presents to the General Assembly a report on the Commission’s activity and financial situation, together with a report on the situation of the agricultural and food industries of the CIIA's member countries.

Michel Foucault was appointed General secretary by the General meeting at January 1st, 2006.

2010 General Assembly voted for several resolutions to improve Commission management with:
- ordinary session of the General meeting every 2 years (even years, simultaneously with the SIAL)
- number of vice-presidents carried from 2 to 5 for better representing the various areas of the world
- authority is given to the Executive committee to appoint a “General secretary by interim” toward organizing a General meeting in the event of durable incapacity of the holder
- powers are given the General secretary to appoint “special Delegates” within the General secretary to coordinate the execution of action plans.
