General introduction

The International Commission for Agricultural and Food Industries, abridged CIIA in French, is an international and inter-governmental organisation created in 1934 in Paris by 49 states and recognised by the United Nations.
In 1949, CIIA was recognised by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ESC) not only as an intergovernmental organisation but also as a vocational body : an agreement for co-operation and work relations was established that same year with the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of which it obtained a consultative statute.
March 11th 1969, its statutes were actualised by an Extraordinary General Assembly.

Mission : To develop international co-operation to ensure promotion and diversification of agricultural raw material through agribusiness and food industries in the scientific, technical and economic fields.
The CIIA has the following aims :
- general study of scientific, technical, economic and social questions relating to agricultural and food industries;
- programme of activities comprising formulating and distributing documents, organizing international congresses and meetings concerning the food and agricultural industries, training technicians and, if required, participating in any technical assistance programme within its sphere of competence.

The Executive Committee and Scientific Board are elected for 4 years at the annual General Assembly.

The General Secretary is in charge of the Secretariat of the Commission, ensures the execution of the programme approved by the General Assembly

Partners : Every institution and company interested in or that participate  to the food sector development, ie. those engaged in the preservation and/or processing of the plant and animal products of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
